What Is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnosis is an “altered state of awareness”, during which the conscious, critical, analytical,
mind, is slipped to the side allowing easier access to the unconscious mind.
Esther Ekhart, a clinical hypnotherapist and counsellor at the Boab Centre in Kealkil, likens the human mind to an iceberg.
The visible, or conscious, part of the mind, she says, is only a very small part of the whole.
Like an iceberg, most of the mind is hidden from us. Our unconscious mind is “below the surface”,
we don’t know about it, yet it influences every aspect of our lives.
During a hypnotherapy session, the conscious mind goes to the sidelines,
and our unconscious mind becomes more open to change and to suggestion.
